My Super Bowl Picks!

Ok, so by the title of this post one might assume that I wold be breaking down the game and picking which team is going to win. Well I am not. Ravens are going to win. I can just feel in my bones. The picks that I am talking about are what to snack on. Super Bowl to me means the chance to cook up a bunch of things that probably aren't going to be great in the health department but AMAZING to taste. So without further ado, here are my picks. What will you be making?

Meatball Sub with Caramelized Onions From Smitten Kitchen.

Mini Cheddar Popovers From Shutterbean

Momofuku Style Chicken Wings from Momofuku For 2

Mini Pretzel Dogs from Joy the Baker

on the subject of food

Awesome baked wings from Shutterbean.com

Makes these. ASAP. I was scared of making chicken wings at home but since these bad boys are baked, they are both significantly easier and healthier than frying. With only a few weeks of football left, you will be thanking me.

putting this out into the universe

here is my idea of the weekend. i would like to go to a sports bar that serves good chinese food. sub out the wings, nachos and quesadillas and sub in dumplings, fried rice and spare ribs. just a thought.

y'all ready for this

cue the jock jams, its time for football and guess what i am most excited about? no, not that sweet-ass dance that victor cruz does (though i do love it)  nor is it PB looking like an investment banker with 2 computer screens, an iphone and ipad wheeling and dealing the fantasy circuit. guys, come on. its the food. so in no particular order, here is what i am pumped to make and then stuff my face with during the season.

  • Feta Pine Nut Dip Ok, so maybe we aren't starting off with the manliest of foods out there but who care, i am a lady anyway.
  • Siracha Honey Buffalo Wings If you have never had siracha and honey mixed together, get on it. They totally compliment each other in a way you didn't know possible..i am looking at you Vanderbilt Brussel Spouts  These might take me a little trial and error but i have a feeling they will be worth it.

  • Caramelized Onion & Prosciutto Pizza I would be a total liar if i didn't tell you that we eat this pizza on the monthly basis. Pioneer Woman has been my lady crush for years and almost everything she touches in the kitchen turns to pure enjoyment. This is no exception to the rule. Its a must make. Do it.

  •  Zucchini Fries I was recently at a diner and asked if they had these available. Ever since the waitress told me no, i have been craving these. Yummy dipped in warmed up (it must be warm) marinara and i am good to go
  • Hot Caprese Dip I love a Caprese salad. I love queso-dip. Let's point out the obvious, i love cheese. Yumm.

i am sure that i will be making and eating a ton more this NFL season. i will keep you posted with what i think is totally amazing and worth making. and if you have any awesome food to share, please let me know.

a better bagged lunch

No offense to Joey Tribbiani but after brown bagging a sandwich for lunch off and on for the past 30 years, things were getting a little dull. So when I don't have leftovers to pack, I found that I was packing a pretty boring sandwich. And then as Oprah would say, in the aisles of Key Foods, where every woman dreams, I had my a-ha moment. Go for the roll. By that I mean, go for the hard, yummy substantial roll instead of the sliced bread. A roll is not only filling but more appetizing and is still going to be less expensive than ANYTHING you find at your usual lunch places.
Once I had the roll down, I thought about what else I could do to elevate my lunch. Here is what I came up with.

A Better Sandwich

  • Ok so this isn't going to be low carb, but who cares, go for the roll, you will be glad you did.
  • Spice up your meat selections-- literally-- turkey pastrami is a little spicy. Or go with a honey roast, smoked, whatever. Just look around and see what your options are. Change is out there.
  • Cheese Please. Love to snack on brie...who said you can't put it on a sandwich. Muster, cheddar, provolone, aged gouda (yes please) are all awesome pics. Go crazy, its just a few slices.
  • Here is where the fun starts. I like mayo and mustard as much as the next but I also love balsamic glaze, pesto, even salsa. Try a different condiment and you will not be disappointed.
  • Finally, veggies. What about a pickled hot pepper, or a fire toasted tomato. Give me the works!
I hope these tips are slightly helpful. Even one of them would totally jazz up a snoozer of a lunch I think. What about you? What are you eating for lunch?
